Wordcraft Creative Relief Fund
Updated: May 8, 2020
Wordcraft continues to support Native Creatives throughout these trying times.

Today, we launch our Wordcraft Circle Relief fund!
For almost thirty years, Wordcraft Circle has supported the work and words of Native writers, storytellers, and creatives. We recognize the current crisis will have significant effects on many of our creative communities and we have been able to allocate a small amount of funding to support writers and storytellers in this time of need.
These awards have no reporting requirements but do come with a few requests, which we have outlined in each of the sections below.
Should you be selected for funding, you will also receive a one-year membership with Wordcraft Circle and all the benefits included (read more HERE).
We know that there will be a number of folks applying for these awards and we won’t be able to fund everyone. But as we continue to raise funds we hope to make more awards available and we hope that you will continue to support our work.
The application is available below. Submissions are due by May 17th. Decisions and notifications will be made the following week.
For writers and creatives
$4000 available to be distributed in eight (8) $500 awards.
Requirements:
You need to be working on a project. Be it a chapbook, a collection of short stories, a novel, doesn’t matter, we want to see you developing your profession. We want to let folks know about your work and how we can promote you.
You need to gift us some of your writing on the following topic: Positive Indigenous Futurisms. In this era of pandemic, we need a bit of inspiration about how Native and Indigenous folks have and will continue to survive and thrive. Doesn’t have to be long (500 words min), doesn’t have to be original (could be something you have already written) but we would like to post and promote.
*Creatives welcome to apply in this category. This includes illustrators, musicians, playwrights, etc.
For storytellers:
$1000 available to be distributed in five (5) $200 awards.
Requirements:
You need to gift us one of your stories. It can already have been recorded or you can record something new. Five to ten minutes is preferred; something you feel is appropriate that we can post and promote online.
*Note: for any work that is submitted as part of the requirements, you retain the rights to the work.
