Did you know there was an Australian version of Wordcraft Circle? Neither did we! At least not until we were contacted by Cathy Craigie of the First Nations Australian Writers Network (FNAWN).
Way back in April, Ms. Craigie, the Executive Director of FNAWN, reached out to Wordcraft Circle to see if there were some Native and Indigenous writers who might be interested in meeting up while a number of FNAWN members were touring the East Coast in September. Part of their journey coincided with the National Book Festival in Washington DC, the annual book fest held by the Library of Congress, where they would be presenting their work.
National Director, Dr. Lee Francis IV, was available to meet with the group and had a wonderful two days of conversations about writing, culture, and Indigenous identity. The readings at the Book Festival were incredibly well attended and the Aboriginal writers were the toast of the Fest!
Wordcraft is excited about continuing the work with FNAWN and the continued potential for cultural exchanges in the future!
